NCSEA Member Organizations

Member Organization Delegates

Handbooks are Coming: Each Member Organization (MO) assigns a main contact person (Delegate) plus one alternate person (Alternate Delegate) to represent their MO to the national association. The Delegate and Alternate Delegate are crucial links between the MO and NCSEA. Delegates are expected to pass information from NCSEA to the MO Board; and they are asked to speak for the MO when NCSEA requests feedback through surveys and questionnaires. A newly-created handbook will soon be available, to provide answers and guidance for Delegates and Alternate Delegates during their tenure as MO representatives to NCSEA. The handbook is expected to go to print this month and will be sent to Delegates and Alternate Delegates soon after receipt of their MO’s dues and membership forms.

Annual Conference: At the national conference in Philadelphia this year, there will be break-out sessions on Saturday which are intended to give Delegates ideas for growing their MO’s and taking them to the next level. If an MO sends a Delegate and an Alternate Delegate, the MO will be able to benefit from attendance at four of the five sessions available. Hopefully, Delegates and Alternate Delegates alike will be returning to their MOs with fresh ideas, new materials, and contacts to share. See pages 3-4 of this newsletter for the complete schedule.

Code Notes

August 20 was the deadline for submittal of proposals to ICC for changes to be included in the 2009 edition of the codes. The NCSEA Code Advisory Committee was active in the development of proposals this cycle, coordinating the work of engineers around the country to submit proposals on a wide range of structural topics affecting both new and existing buildings. Proposals submitted affect chapters 4, 16, 17, 18 and 34 of the building code. ICC will publish all of the proposals received in a PDF-format monograph, which will be posted at the www.iccsafe.org web site, sometime in September.
