Loadbearing masonry construction is an economical solution for projects and is used widely across the U.S. This presentation will discuss several common structural design details and assumptions that have a major impact on cost and schedule of projects, and in some cases will negatively affect sustainability goals. This presentation will include actual cost case studies and recommendations for alterative designs and details to help promote economical designs of masonry structures. TMS 402 code provisions will be reviewed and applied to actual projects and conditions to help further the understanding of masonry design.

Speakers:
Philippe Ledent, P.E., S.E., is the Executive Director of the Masonry Institute of Michigan where he provides technical support to the A/E/C community. He has taught structural masonry design at Lawrence Technological University and the University of Toledo, and he currently serves on the board of directors for The Masonry Society and as the secretary for the TMS 402/602 code. Phil is a licensed professional engineer and structural engineer, and he managed the structural department at an A/E firm prior to joining the MIM.
Kyle Lochonic is a Project Manger at Davenport Masonry. He is a second-generation bricklayer and has worked in the construction industry for more than 50 years. He began his career as a laborer, later becoming a bricklayer, stone mason, bricklayer foreman, and estimator. As a project manager, he has distinguished himself as being remarkably creative and resourceful. Kyle is actively involved in masonry education and has taught classes on wall bracing, masonry material properties and more.

Webinar Cancellation
By NCSEA: If a webinar is canceled by NCSEA, all registered attendees will be notified via email. NCSEA will issue a full refund if the event cannot be rescheduled. If the event is rescheduled and a registrant can not attend on the rescheduled date, NCSEA will offer a credit in the amount of the purchase price.
By Registrant/Attendee: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the webinar (or the first webinar in the case of a series or bundle) and in writing via email (ncsea@ncsea.com) with the subject line “NCSEA Webinar Cancellation” and include the following in the body of the email: Title of Webinar, Order/Invoice Number, Name of Registrant, and Reason for Cancellation. No telephone refund requests will be accepted.
If the request has been approved, NCSEA can do one of the following:
- Refund the amount back to the original order payment method (a $25 cancellation processing fee will be assessed)
- Issue a full credit on the purchaser’s account that can be used towards a future webinar/event.
If you are unable to attend the webinar and the cancellation deadline has passed, a recording will be available (in most cases) in the Education Portal after the webinar has concluded.
Refunds are not granted due to attendee technology issues. It is your responsibility as the webinar attendee to test your computer setup prior to the start of the webinar.
