Understanding the Capabilities of Today’s Design Software for Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses by SBCA – Free STRUCTURE Sponsored Webinar
October 7, 2026 | Wed 12:00 America/Chicago
Duration: 1.0 Hour
CE Credits: 1.0
$
This presentation will provide insights into the software used to design metal plate connected wood trusses. Developed by the connector plate manufacturers, these design software programs are sophisticated, code-compliant tools based on ANSI/TPI 1 provisions, covering member design, connector plate capacity, and required load case combinations per ASCE 7. The presentation will walk through how loads are entered and analyzed, and how to interpret truss design drawings, including reactions, deflections, and bracing notes. It will also review the boundaries of what the software does and does not analyze and highlight conditions such as gable end frames and girder trusses that may require additional engineering. The session closes with a review of the delegated design process, roles and responsibilities of the Engineer of Record, truss manufacturer, and truss designer.
- Continuing education credit is being provided by Structural Building Components Association (SBCA). Questions? abaker@sbcacomponents.com
