John-Michael Wong, Ph.D., S.E., a member of the NCSEA Foundation’s AI Taskforce, recently served as keynote speaker at the 2025 CFSEI Expo, drawing widespread attention for his insightful presentation on integrating artificial intelligence into structural engineering.
Wong delivered a clear message: AI isn’t a distant concept — it’s here, it’s powerful, and it’s time to engage with it responsibly. His talk provided real-world examples, practical strategies, and a roadmap to begin leveraging AI safely and effectively. He also highlighted NCSEA’s resources, including sample AI policies and tool evaluation frameworks, and emphasized the importance of engineers maintaining “responsible charge” as they adopt new technologies.
The keynote sparked important conversation, and it positioned NCSEA’s AI Taskforce as a national leader in this fast-moving space. Click here to read CFSEI’s full article recapping the event.
More Voices, More Momentum
Wong is one of several NCSEA volunteers helping to shape the conversation around AI in structural engineering. Recently, Taskforce members have presented at more national and regional events, including:
- Emre Toprak, Ph.D., P.E., who was a presenter at the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Building Innovation 2025 Conference and for the Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers (DVASE).
- Andrew Sundal, AIA, P.E., and Brian Petruzzi, P.E., who spoke at NCSEA’s 2025 Leadership Week gathering.
- Additionally, Sundal and Robert Otani, P.E., will present “Harness the Power of AI Across the Built Community” at the AIA25 Conference on Architecture & Design on June 5.
