Current versions of ASCE 7 (7-22 and previous) do not consider future conditions, but instead use historical data to generate the wind speed maps in ASCE 7. Most structures have life spans of 50 to 100 years. Climate scientists have reached an overwhelming consensus that hurricane intensities will tend to increase because of climate change. As a result of these two facts, an effort is underway in ASCE 7-28 to generate a new chapter to provide wind (and other hazard) loads with consideration for future conditions to guide designers, jurisdictions, and building owners who wish to design for these effects now.
