Structural engineering firm leaders from across the country convened in Amelia Island on March 18–20, 2026, for the second NCSEA Structural Engineering Executive Retreat, continuing the momentum of last year’s inaugural event. Designed to foster high-level discussions on leadership, business strategy, and the evolving challenges facing the profession, the retreat brought together representatives from over 50 firms for a series of interactive sessions and peer-driven conversations, with lively roundtable discussions intermixed throughout the event.

A highlight of the program, Professional Liability Insurance Requirements – How to Tame Increasing Demands, focused on the growing pressure from clients for increased coverage limits. Moderated by Ron Klemencic of Magnusson Klemencic Associates, the session featured firm leaders Michael Gryniuk (CORA Structural) and Stacy Bartoletti (Degenkolb Engineers), who shared firsthand experiences navigating these challenges. Participants engaged in breakout discussions with peers from similarly sized firms to explore potential responses and identify opportunities for a more unified, profession-wide approach.

The retreat also explored broader economic and industry trends, including a session on the evolving economic landscape and its implications for firm leadership. Discussions highlighted the impacts of inflation, workforce shifts, and emerging technologies such as AI on staffing, backlog, and long-term planning, while also offering a science-based lens on effective leadership behaviors.

In addition to the educational sessions, attendees participated in a team-based scavenger hunt, which provided a fun and engaging way to build connections and foster camaraderie throughout the event.

Throughout the retreat, attendees engaged in candid discussions on risk management, workforce development, and innovation, reinforcing the value of creating space for firm leaders to connect, share insights, and collaborate on solutions. Building on the success of both years, NCSEA continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting structural engineering leaders and advancing the future of the profession.
