As noted in January’s spotlight on the CLF Policy Map, embodied carbon policies are becoming more widespread nationwide. Keeping up with the pace of sustainable design in the built environment, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently announced its latest standard entitled ASCE/COS 73-23: Standard Practice for Sustainable Infrastructure. This performance-based standard “provides guidance for infrastructure owners to develop and implement sustainable solutions throughout a project’s entire life cycle.” The ASCE 73-23 standard also centers on embodied carbon reduction by directing “project owners to develop and implement a greenhouse gas emission reduction plan to reduce the total infrastructure solution emission by 15% from the solution’s baseline.”

The U.S. Green Building Council is offering on-demand recordings of the USGBC Track sessions from Greenbuild 2023. The series includes a total of nine courses, and each month the USGBC will make one course available to view for free. The USGBC Track sessions are a way for the global green building community to get updates on LEED and key priorities and initiatives. Featured topics include embodied carbon, adaptive reuse and environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing. Check out the courses available for free in March here and all the recordings for Greenbuild 2023 here.
