Description

Structural irregularities are commonly encountered in building design, often resulting from the challenges of coordinating architectural layout, aesthetics, space planning, and other design considerations. If not properly addressed, these irregularities can compromise structural integrity, posing risks to both the building’s occupants and the surrounding community.

This series draws on the recently published Guide to the Design of Common Irregularities in Buildings, which aligns with the provisions of the 2021 International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7-22, and ACI 318-19. The focus is on the influence of vertical and horizontal irregularities on diaphragm design, as well as the corresponding code requirements that structural engineers must adhere to during the design process.

The registration fee for the Series and Guide bundle is $395 for members ($600 for nonmembers), which includes all 2.25 hours of education, and the digital copy of the Guide to the Design of Common Irregularities in Buildings. Each individual webinar can be purchase for $250 for members ($300 for nonmembers), and the digital copy of the Excavation Shoring Guide can be purchased for $195 for members ($345 for nonmembers).

  • Purchase both webinars in the Seminar and have access to the recordings for 1 Year.
  • PLUS: Receive a digital copy of the Guide to the Design of Common Irregularities in Buildings (valued at $195 for members/$345 for nonmembers)
  • Each seminar purchase is per office location. If your firm is operating remotely, please review the Webinar FAQ’s on how to accommodate multiple users from the same location.

Please note: These webinars are not included in the NCSEA Webinar Subscription.

Schedule of Events

June 17th – Day 1: Design of Concrete Diaphragm, Chords, and Collectors for Horizontal Irregularity (75 mins), Presented by Badri K. Prasad, S.E.

Day 1 of this special NCSEA webinar series based on the recently published “Guide to the Design of Common Irregularities in Buildings,” focuses on designing concrete diaphragms for out-of-plane shear wall offsets in a four-story concrete building, addressing seismic design categories B and D. The design example will include: Determining diaphragm forces, Code considerations for irregularities, Designing diaphragms for shear demands and Designing chords and collectors.

June 19th – Day 2: Design of Steel Diaphragm, Chords, and Collectors for Horizontal Irregularity (60 mins), Presented by Rafael Sabelli, S.E.

Day 2 covers designing steel diaphragms for out-of-plane offsets in a steel building, addressing seismic design categories B and D. The design example illustrates the derivation of forces for the design of diaphragm elements related to certain plan irregularities. Learning objectives for this webinar include: Determination of diaphragm demands for SDC D, Considerations for horizontal and vertical irregularities, Roof diaphragm design for SDC D and Floor diaphragm design for SDC D.
