Description

Dr. Tousignant’s two-part webinar series will leave the audience with a broad appreciation for hollow structural section (HSS) connections. In the first session, he will discuss the rules used to classify HSS truss connections, their potential limit states, code requirements, and considerations for fabrication and design. In the second session, he will focus on HSS moment connections.

The registration fee for the series is $250 for members ($300 for nonmembers), which includes 2 hours of education. Each individual webinar can be purchased separately for $195 for members ($250 for nonmembers).

  • Purchase both webinars in the Seminar and have access to the recordings for 1 Year.
  • Each seminar purchase is per office location. If your firm is operating remotely, please review the Webinar FAQ’s on how to accommodate multiple users from the same location.
  • Each webinar is 60 minutes long (1.0 PDH’s), and is from 12pm – 1pm CT.

Please note: These webinars are not included in the NCSEA Webinar Subscription.

Schedule of Events:
April 22nd – Day 1:
Weld Design for Hollow Structural Section Connections
Presented by Dr. Kyle Tousignant, Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. Tousignant will summarize the rules used to classify HSS truss connections, and their potential limit states. Additional technical resources, such as AISC 360 and AISC Design Guide 24, will also be introduced for those wanting to learn more or apply the knowledge in practice. The remainder of the presentation will focus on the application of AISC 360 Section K5 – “Welds of plates and branches to HSS” and related considerations for fabrication and design.

April 29th – Day 2:
Moment Connections to RHS Columns, Presented by Dr. Kyle Tousignant, Ph.D., P.E.

The second day of this webinar series will dive into a case study discussing common challenges faced when using HSS members in moment-resisting frames. Dr. Tousignant will share a unique Canadian perspective on these challenges and reveal that the solution may lie in using American code provisions (AISC 341) as a model to overcome them. American engineers will benefit from this comparative study revealing new and innovative solutions for connecting HSS members in moment-resisting frames.
