Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity (SE3): 2020 Survey Results

In the Spring of 2020, the SE3 Committee conducted its third nationwide survey of structural engineers across the profession. The survey is an ongoing effort to identify trends, and to initiate industry-wide conversations. With an effort to focus on both racial and gender equity , the committee streamlined its core questions regarding career satisfaction, compensation, and work-life balance. New to the survey were questions regarding challenges in retention and recruitment of engineers, work flexibility before and after COVID-19, and perception of the profession compared to other STEM careers among other topics.

This presentation will review the latest survey findings and highlight the work being done by the SE3 committee as informed by the results of the 2020 survey. Attendees will gain an understanding of the current challenges facing the profession as well as actionable information to help improve both their firms and the profession as a whole.

Speakers:

Sabrina Duk, P.E., is the founding principal of Verahaus Structural, LLC. Originally from New England, Sabrina’s career has taken her to all four corners of the country working on various projects ranging from post-disaster investigations to new construction and historic restorations. Her goal is to elevate a client’s experience working with a structural engineer and thrives on guiding young engineers along their career. Sabrina is an active member of her local NCSEA member organization and is currently the Chair of the SE3 committee.

Rose McClure, S.E., is a senior engineer in Simpson Gumpertz & Heger’s Chicago office. Rose is very active within the SE community through her work with NCSEA and ASCE/SEI. She is the co-founder of the SE3 Project and past chair of the NCSEA Structural Engagement and Equity (SE3) Committee.

Webinar Cancellation

By NCSEA: If a webinar is canceled by NCSEA, all registered attendees will be notified via email. NCSEA will issue a full refund if the event cannot be rescheduled. If the event is rescheduled and a registrant can not attend on the rescheduled date, NCSEA will offer a credit in the amount of the purchase price.

By Registrant/Attendee: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the webinar (or the first webinar in the case of a series or bundle) and in writing via email ( ncsea@ncsea.com) with the subject line “NCSEA Webinar Cancellation” and include the following in the body of the email: Title of Webinar, Order/Invoice Number, Name of Registrant, and Reason for Cancellation. No telephone refund requests will be accepted.

If the request has been approved, NCSEA can do one of the following:

• Refund the amount back to the original order payment method (a $25 cancellation processing fee will be assessed)

• Issue a full credit on the purchaser’s account that can be used towards a future webinar/event.

If you are unable to attend the webinar and the cancellation deadline has passed, a recording will be available (in most cases) in the Education Portal after the webinar has concluded.
Refunds are not granted due to attendee technology issues. It is your responsibility as the webinar attendee to test your computer setup prior to the start of the webinar.
