NCSEA Code Advisory, Wind Committee Updates

The NCSEA Code Advisory Committee surveys practicing structural engineers every 6 years to generate a pulse on the profession with respect to codes and standards. The results of the 2022 survey will be used to inform code change proposals for ASCE 7-28 provisions, advocate at IBC code hearings, and develop instructional tools for practicing engineers. This session will present an overview of the results of the survey, with additional opportunity for attendees to provide input.
In addition, this session will present tools developed by the NCSEA Wind Committee to support practicing engineer. This session will introduce the following resources.

  • Hurricanes, Tornadoes: FAQ for Communicating with the Public
  • Topographic Factor: White Paper
  • Exposure Classification: White Paper
  • Tornados: Sample design Problems

 

  • Course will award 1.25 hours of continuing education
  • This course is Diamond Review approved in 49 states. New York does not accept hours from recordings.

Please note: This webinar is part of the Examining Code Updates Series and is not included in the NCSEA Webinar Subscription. The registration fee for the Series is $595 for members ($895 for nonmembers), which includes all 6 hours of education.

Speakers:

Emily Guglielmo, S.E., Principal, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from UCLA, and her Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from UC Berkeley. She has two decades of structural engineering experience, all with Martin/Martin, Inc. She began her career in their Denver, CO area office, and is currently a Principal with the firm, managing their San Francisco Bay Area office. She has lectured on seismic provisions across the nation. Emily is the Chair for the ASCE 7-28 seismic committee. A licensed SE, Emily has received a number of awards, including SEI Fellow and the Susan M. Frey NCSEA Educator Award, for effective instruction for practicing structural engineers.

John O’Brien, P.E., S.E., is a Director of Engineering & Associate at PES Structural Engineers in Atlanta, GA with over 15 years of structural design experience. He has extensive experience designing senior living, mixed use, hospitality, industrial and retail structures in hurricane prone regions. He has designed tornado shelters throughout the Midwest, and assisted clients in making economical design decisions to improve building resistance to the most common EF0-EF2 tornadoes. In addition to design work, he has investigated hurricane and tornado damage to structures throughout the Southeast, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. John is a voting member of NCSEA’s Wind Engineering Committee and the ASCE 7 Wind Loads Subcommittee.

NCSEA Webinars and Digital Events Cancellation and Refund Policies

Webinar Cancellation

By NCSEA: If a webinar is canceled by NCSEA, all registered attendees will be notified via email. NCSEA will issue a full refund if the event cannot be rescheduled. If the event is rescheduled and a registrant can not attend on the rescheduled date, NCSEA will offer a credit in the amount of the purchase price.

By Registrant/Attendee: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the webinar (or the first webinar in the case of a series or bundle) and in writing via email ( ncsea@ncsea.com) with the subject line “NCSEA Webinar Cancellation” and include the following in the body of the email: Title of Webinar, Order/Invoice Number, Name of Registrant, and Reason for Cancellation. No telephone refund requests will be accepted.

If the request has been approved, NCSEA can do one of the following:

  • Refund the amount back to the original order payment method (a $25 cancellation processing fee will be assessed)
  • Issue a full credit on the purchaser’s account that can be used towards a future webinar/event.

If you are unable to attend the webinar and the cancellation deadline has passed, a recording will be available (in most cases) in the Education Portal after the webinar has concluded.
Refunds are not granted due to attendee technology issues. It is your responsibility as the webinar attendee to test your computer setup prior to the start of the webinar.
