Speaker:
Dean Schoenberg, P.E., S.E., joined Thornton Tomasetti in 2011 and has since gathered more than a decade of experience in concrete, CMU and steel design and detailing for seismic provisions, as well as modeling and analysis of structural responses to seismic loading. Dean received his M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Washington State University. His extensive project portfolio spans diverse sectors, from education to residential, government, commercial, hospitality, mixed-use, transportation and sports. In his role as Project Manager on the Epstein Family Amphitheater, Dean played a pivotal role in the structural design for the amphitheater, which includes a stage covered by a 40-foot-tall, ETFE-clad, diagrid steel shell and concrete back-of-house facilities structural design and detail development of the ETFE roof canopy. His leadership on the project involved close collaboration with the design team and fabricators, utilizing form-finding techniques to develop the geometry, ensuring that architectural intent, structural efficiency and feasibility were balanced.
